Thursday April 15th, 2010 8:00AM Another snowmobile season has come to an end. The executive would like to take this time to thank all of our members, volunteers and sponsors for another great season. We look forward to a nice summer and the 2010-2011 snowmobile season.
We will update this page when we have some news or work parties happening. (See the next post)
Tuesday April 13th, 201010:00PM Well we had our last meeting of the season last night. We never had the election of officers as planned. It was tabled until the first meeting in the fall that will be announced at a later date.
The cleanup now begins. We also have 3 bridges that need to be re-built before the end of June to take advantage of some trail grant money that is available. The 1rst one to be tackled is the one near Lakeside Estates on trail 653. It will be done on Saturday April 24th. If you have any time to donate and would like to help out, please send me an E-Mail and I will give you the details..
Thursday March 18th, 2010 9:00PM Well like most of you have probably already figured out, the trail system took a huge hit this week. With the warm temps the snow base has gone down significantly and in some areas is pretty much gone. For this reason, the groomer will not be heading back out unless things change.
Monday March 15th, 2010 10:00PM I just added some pictures from the club trip as well as some Caledonia Mountain pics to the media gallery of the website. Click here to see them.
Monday March 15th, 2010 7:30AM What a great weekend. I spoke to a few sledders on the weekend that were able to make it out. They said except for a few grass, dirt spots and washouts popping up in some areas, the trails were in pretty good shape. This is to be expected with all the warmer weather we have been having.
Looking ahead to this week, it is not looking any better temperature wise to extend the snowmobile season too much longer. We will keep an eye on the weather and the trails and see if we can do anything more with them. The good thing about the temperatures is that they are still dropping below freezing at night. Should still be a nice week on the trails if you get a chance to head out.
Wednesday March 10th, 20107:30PM Last night the groomer finished up the St Marie trails up to the sugar Camp. The crossing of the BouctoucheRiveron trail 34 is closed and not safe to cross. We had it all roped off and someone took the rope down yesterday and crossed it. Very dangerous with all the warm weather we have been having. The CocagneRivercrossing on trail 52 is also closed.
Below is a copy of an E-Mail that I thought needed to be shared with everyone. He makes some very good points. It is hard for us volunteers to see everything.
Just getting in from beautiful spring ride on the new to me glide and wanted to share with you, so that you could share with others as to conditions. Dropped at Caledonia Park and have to say that trails were super from there up towards St. Marie. Very little traffic but again, trails were very good.
At the meeting the other night they were saying that if we noticed signage issues we should mention it as to correct little shortfalls or omissions and improve this for alls sake. Personally I found that from CapeBretonrd north to Irishtown rd to be a little sketchy on the turns and cautions or slow. That area seemed better coming back though. I know things are winding down soon but this signage thingy is a good thing to mention on site as to have all members take notes on where little improvements can be made and corrected for the safety of us all. Also that if members are going by McLaughlin shelter it really needs garbage bags to put bottles and cans in and those as well as garbage should be hauled out. I swept up there and we could all help with the tidiness if some picked up trash as we see it. There are lots of bottles and cans laying and sitting about. Mike
Tuesday March 9th, 2010 4:30PM The groomer was out on the trails yesterday evening. The trails that were done were: trail 34/52 up to the 34 /52 t, the 34 up to route 126, the 646 to the 653 and then the 642 into the Caledonia Park. He then returned to St.Antoine this morning. He will be heading out again this evening and doing the trails around the St.Marie and St.Antoine area. There are some areas with little to know snow as well as a few washouts, so please drive with care.
Should be some nice spring riding over the next few days.
Monday March 8th, 20107:30AM Well if you had the chance to make it out on the trails this past weekend, you picked a good one. The temperatures were very warm almost to warm. There was allot of traffic reported. The groomer was out on Saturday night as planned. He reported allot of sled traffic. I heard from a few members Sunday that said the trails were excellent, but getting loose as the temperatures rose to around +5 or so.
The groomer will be heading out this evening once the temperatures drop.
Do not forget our Monthly meeting tonight at 7:30PM at the TankvilleSchool. This is also the meeting to attend if you want to nominate yourself or someone you know to run for our elections next month.
Friday March 5th, 20107:30PM What a few days of windy weather and some volunteers will do! I just got off the phone with the operator and he said that for the most part the trees that were down have been up righted or cut. Thanks to everyone who took the time to help out.
Trails that will have been done by later this evening are: The 642 into The Caledonia Industrial Park, the 653 trough Lakeside Estates and up to the overpass construction on highway 15, the 646 up to Elmwood Drive (highway 115) and the Lowery, Rd, the 34 up to the 126 and into St.Antoine, the 34/52 up to the Bouctouche River and into St.Antoine. The 34/52 crossing of the BouctoucheRiverin St.Mariehas been closed due to unsafe ice conditions.
Tomorrow morning he will do the 52 up to Cocagne. The CocagneRivercrossing is also closed due to unsafe ice conditions.
If all goes as planned the groomer will be out on the trails again tomorrow evening once the traffic dies down and the temperatures drop. He will concentrate on the main trails 52, 34, 646 and 642 into the Shell for Fuel and return back.
Have a great weekend and please sled safe!
Thursday March 4th, 20109:00PM The plan is that the groomer operator will be heading out on the trail with a helper tomorrow morning at around 6:00AM. They will groom and trim as needed. It will be a slow process in some areas. There will be a few other people heading out as well tomorrow to help from different directions. Once again if you have a few hours to help, it would be greatly appreciated. Just go out and trim or shake some trees, no real set agenda or route. Every little bit would help. I just heard from a few of our members that have been out and shaked or cut some trees which is greatly appreciated. Thank You!
The 34/52 crossing of the Bouctouche River in St.Mariehas been closed due to unsafe ice conditions.
I will update once I hear how they made out.
Tuesday March 2nd, 2010 5:30PM Well the groomer headed out on the trail earlier and he has now turned around and is heading back to home base for now. He reported back to us that the amount of overhanging trees is really bad. He was concerned that he might break some windows.
He will not be heading out until we can get the trees either cleared up by volunteers, or they go back up themselves. This will be the 4rth time this year that we need to deal with this. So here is a call out for some volunteers. We need some people who have some time over the next few days to head out and clear some overhang. Even if you only have a few hours that is fine. Every little bit will help. If you can head out, please give Alphe a call at 866-7864 or Charlie at 381-0751 to let us know which area you will be inspecting and trimming back. The sooner we can get together and get this done, the quicker we can head out with the groomer again.
Tuesday March 2nd, 2010 7:30AM Well we got some snow. Looks like about around 20 centimeters of wet snow. The temperatures will be a little bit cooler at night this week. This will help in getting this snow settled. We will asess the trail situation today and decide from there what we will be doing with grooming.
The 34/52 crossing on the Bouctouche River in St.Mariehas been closed due to unsafe ice conditions. We are not recommending crossing it at this time.
Monday March 1rst/2010 7:30AM What an awesome gold medal hockey game last night.
We got allot of rain over the last few days. Now we are under a snowfall warning. We will need to wait and see what this system brings us, and then we will assess the trails. There are definitely some wet areas that we will need to deal with.
The 34/52 crossing on the BouctoucheRiver in St.Mariehas been closed due to unsafe ice conditions. We are not recommending crossing it at this time.
Saturday February 27th/2010 8:30AM Well I guess they got half of the weather forecast right. The rain part! It is extremely wet out there, and we are not sure how bad the trails suffered. I guess we will need to wait and see what the next few days bring us for weather. Stay tuned.
Thursday February 25th/2010 9:00PM As anticipated the operator made it from St.Antoine to Monctonand back last evening. For the most part it was good going. Depending on what you listen to we are in for some freezing rain, rain and snow over the next couple of days. Hopefully more snow than anything else will fall. Let’s keep our fingers crossed.
As of today trail the 34/52 crossing on the BouctoucheRiver in St.Mariehas been closed due to unsafe ice conditions. We are not recommending crossing it at this time.
Thursday February 25th/2010 8:00AM The groomer was out last evening. I spoke to the operator at around 8:30 last evening and he had just left. He said it was not horrible going, but not the greatest either. I am sure it would have got better as the temps went down. He was hoping to make it into Moncton and back. I will let you know what was done as soon as I hear from him. Hopefully the rain for tomorrow is not to bad.
Wednesday February 24th/2010 7:30AM It has not been a great week temperature wise at all. With all these warm temperatures there are alot of moguled up areas in our trail system at this time. Now to top things off the anticipated storm coming towards the end of the week is looking like it will be mostly a rain event for us. We are hoping it will cool off a little over the next few nights so we can at least get the groomer out before the rain. This way once it freezes up again, we have a flatter base to work with.
I will update all of you once I have more info tomorrow.
Sunday February 21rst/2010 10:30AM Well the groomer was not able to make it out again last evening. It is impossible to groom with these warmer temperatures. They are calling for a bit cooler temperatures and some snow towards the end of this upcoming week. We will hope for the best, but will need to wait and see.
I heard from a few sledders that were out yesterday, and they said for the most part the trails were in good shape with spring like loose conditions. We did have a decent flat base a couple weeks ago when we got some cold weather, so this is definitely helping the trails stay smoother.
Saturday February 20th/2010 7:45PM The snow took another kicking today. It does not look real promising again tonight. Still +1 out there now. Hopefully it will cool off later this evening.
On another note I heard there was a crew out today fixing up the Caledonia shelter's roof and cleaning up the shelter. A big thank you goes out to these volunteers, as well as all the other volunteers that donate there time to make our club one of the biggest and best in New Brunswick. We are over 400 members this year which is awesome. It is really nice to see members taking care of things like this when they are needed.
Have a great weekend!
Friday February 19th/2010 8:00AM Well it sure does not feel like February out there the last few days. The snow that we got from the last storm on Wednesday has pretty much melted away. The long range is not forecasting any real cold temperatures either. We need some cold temperature in a bad way to freeze up the low-lying areas. This warm weather is really taking its toll, and we are not sure how much more our trails can take.
The groomer will not be heading out again until it cools off. It looks like possibly late this evening if all goes as forecast. I will let you know. There will be no daytime grooming possible because of the above 0 temperatures.
It should still be a nice warm weekend on the trails. Sled Safe!
Wednesday February 17th/2010 7:30AM It is -2 outside and the snow is starting to fall. There is a heavy snowfall warning in effect for the Moncton and surrounding area. Hopefully we will get a good dumping. They are calling for some rain tomorrow afternoon, but hopefully it will not be too much. We will obviously be waiting until this storm has passed and the temperatures have dropped to send the groomer out again.
Tuesday February 16th/2010 7:30AM We got a little bit of snow last evening. With the warm temps the groomer has not been able to head out during the day. We are planning on heading out tonight, but if the snow comes we will need to hold off a little bit. We need this snow to help extend our season that is for sure. Once the snow is stopped we will be going non-stop to get the trails ready for the weekend again. We will keep you posted.
On another note, if anyone has some pictures from our Steak Dinner over the weekend, please send them to me and I will post them on the website. contactus@moncton-stantoinesnowmobileclub.com
Sunday February 14th/2010 8:30AM The Steak Dinner yesterday was a success again this year. Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our club. We would also like to say a big thank you to all the volunteers that gave up their day to help out during the event.
Well after all the traffic and the warm day yesterday, the groomer was out on the trails last evening. The plan was to do our normal Saturday night run which is from St.Antoine on the 52, then the 52/34 into St.Marie, turn around and head back down the 34 up to the 646 and down the 642 into the CaledoniaIndustrial park. He usually fuels up and makes the return trip into St.Antoine early Sunday morning. I have not heard from him yet, so that means he is still out on the trail as we speak. It should be a nice day on the trails again today. The long range is calling for a little bit of snow over the next few days. The temperatures are not going to be cold at all hovering around the freezing mark most of the week. We really need the temperatures to be a little colder to help the snow stay and the water stay frozen. Have a great Valentines Day on the trails!
Saturday February 13th/2010 8:00AM Well it looks like it will be a beautiful day out on the trails today. If you are heading out to the Steak Dinner you should have some good trails. We do expect allot of traffic, so head out early. It is scheduled from 12 to 6 at the Sugar Camp off of trail 34/52 in St.Marie.
The groomer will be out this evening again once the temperature drops. Drive Safe!
Friday February 12th/2010 7:30AM The groomer was out on the trails last evening. The operator reported that the trails are setting up nicely. It should be an awesome weekend out on the trails.
Trails that were finished as of this morning are: Trail 642 from the Caledonia Industrial Park down the 646 to behind the Golf course in Magnetic hill. He back tracked down the 646 to the boiling hole and down to what the locals call Macarthur’s pit on route 115. He then returned onto the 646 up to the 34 on Lowery, Rd. He groomed the 34 up to St. Marie and then back down the 34 up the 52.
The groomer is still on the trail grooming the 52 from St.Antoine up to the Cocagne River and Back.
The trails should be in good shape for our annual Steak Dinner going on tomorrow at the Sugar Camp off of trail 34/52 In St.Marie. Hope you can make it between 12 and 6. If you cannot sled in, you can always take the car in. Sled Safe!
Thursday February 11th/2010 9:00AM Another nice day out there! The groomer was out last evening once the temps cooled off. The trails are grooming up nicely and should be really good for the weekend.
Trails that were done last evening are: The 52 up to the 34 in St.Marie, down the 34 up to the Bouctouche River. He then turned around and headed back down the 34 up to the 646 on Lowery, Rd. The 646 up to the 653-trough Lakeside and up to the construction on highway 15 were he turned around. He headed back down the 653 and onto the 642 into the Caledonia Shell.
He should be heading back out this evening around suppertime once the temperatures fall again.
Do not forget our annual Steak Dinner this Saturday from 12:00PM to 6:00PM. It is being held at the Sugar Camp in St.Marie off of trail 34. The price will be $12.00 for a steak, potato and vegetables. There will also be some chicken available for those who would prefer that. Please come out and support the club. It is always a good meal.
Tuesday February 9th/2009 7:30AM We got some snow on Sunday and Monday. This will be good for our trail system and other clubs in New Brunswick also. The groomer started to head out last evening, but he turned around. It was just to warm and not grooming properly at all. The trails would still be in decent shape with this new snow on top. We are going to hold off until it cools off again, which looks like tonight possibly. This will give the snow some time to firm up a little also. I will let you know once we head out.
Saturday February 6th/2010 7:30AM The trails are holding up very well. The groomer should be out on the trail later this evening. If all goes as planned he will be touching up the 34/52 into St.Marie and the Sugar camp, make his way back down the 34/52 onto the 646 and then the 642 into cat. He will then make the return trip.
Please drive safe and take your time on the trails this weekend. Should be a busy one out there.
Do not forget our Monthly meeting Monday night at 7:30 at the TankvilleSchooljust past Pine tree on route 115.
There will be no post on Sunday. Have a great Weekend!
Friday February 5th/2010 7:30AM It is extremely cold again this morning. The comments that we are getting for the most part on the trails is that they are hard and flat. This should help them stand up better over the upcoming weekend. If it warms up a little bit, it should be a busy weekend. So if you head out on the trails please take your time and stay to the right. This will help in keeping our trails smoother for everyone to enjoy.
One little note the operator reported very little snow to work with on the 52 in the Cocagne area, so please take your time.
See yesterdays post for more details!
Thursday February 4th/2010 8:00AM Should be some cool days on good trails if you plan on venturing out over the next few days. The operator made his way back from Atlantic Cat down the 642. The 646 was done up to behind the golf course in Magnetic Hill. Most people are running the side of the highway for the roughly 1/2 mile to the Tim Hortons in Magnetic Hill and Fuel. The 653 was done up to the highway 15 construction as well. He proceeded down the 646 troughs to Irishtown and did a small local trail that most people use to access the main trail trough Macarthur’s Pit and then down the 646 again. He turned of the 646 onto the 34 off of Lowery, Rd. The 34 was then done to St.Antoine then onto the 52 and parked for the night.
The trails are setting up nicely with these cold temperatures and no major traffic during the day. The groomer will be in the garage for some maintenance today, as we never got it done yesterday as originally planned. The plan is to head out again after the repairs, but we will only know for sure of what was done later today. Have fun and Sled Safe!
Wednesday February 3rd/2010 3:00PM
The operator made it in to Atlantic Cat last evening from St.Antoine. Trails that were groomed yesterday were: Trail 52 from St.Antoine, Trail 34 up to the 126, Trail 648 into Irishtown Shell for gas and Trail 646 up to the 642, into Atlantic Cat.
He is out on the trail as we speak. I will update tomorrow Morning on his progress.
Wednesday February 3rd/2010 7:30AM The operator was supposed to have made it into made it into the Caledonia Industrial Park last evening. I was unable to find out details because of cell problems. I will confirm a little later as soon as I find out exactly what trails were done. The operator change was not done last evening, because the groomer needs to be at Cat this morning for quick fix to a couple of things. He will be out on the trail after the repairs.
Reports from a few sledders I spoke to yesterday are that the trails are in great shape and are setting up nicely with this cold weather.
Tuesday February 2nd/2010 7:00AM Before I forget, the Steak Dinner has been re-scheduled for February 13th from 12:00PM to 6:00PM weather permitting. Volunteers are welcome, so please let us know if you can help in any way. contactus@moncton-stantoinesnowmobileclub.com Another cool morning out there, which is great to help the trails set up.
The groomer made it out to the CocagneRiveryesterday on trail 52. He will be leaving this morning and head up the 34 to the St.MarieRiveras well as into the Sugar Camp. From there the plan is to head back into Monctonand redo all the trails that we can once again. There will be an operator change this evening, so most of the trails will have been redone by Wednesday.
Should be good sledding. I will let you know tomorrow of their progress
Monday February 1rst/2010 8:00AM -28 with the wind-chill at post time. The groomer was out on the trails until about 2:00AM this morning. There was a fair amount of snowmobiles out on the trails yesterday. With the light snow we got, the trails will need a combination of sled traffic and grooming to get them set up right.
Trails that were done yesterday are: Trail 642 to the 646 up to behind the Magnetic Hill golf course. This is as far as we can groom this year on this trail. People are picking there way next to the highway and into Magnetic Hill Esso. This was our first pass with the groomer and drag on this trail this year. We busted trough some water holes, which will need to freeze. It needs more snow to take the highs and lows out.
Trail 653 was done trough Lakeside Estates and up to the overpass construction on highway 15. Snowmobiles are going around the construction on the shoulder, and hooking up with Shediac's trail on the other side.
Trail 34 up to the 126 was done. There is a plowed section before the 126, please take your time.
Trail 34 up to the 52 in St.Antoine was also done.
Today he will do the St.Marie and Cocagne trails if all goes well.
Please drive Safe!
Sunday January 31rst/2010 8:00AM The groomer made it into the Caledonia Industrial last night. Trails that were done Saturday were: Trail 52/34 up to the St.MarieRiverand into the Sugar camp, trail 34 up to 646 on Lowry, Rd then down the 646 to the 642 into Atlantic Cat. There was a fair amount of traffic out, and with the type of snow we got it is going to take some sled traffic and some more grooming to get the trails to set up properly.
The part for the heater was picked up last night and the plan is to install it this morning before he heads out again. (See yesterday's post).
Please be on the lookout as the groomer will be out on the trail during the day today!
Saturday January 30th/2010 1:30PM (update) Well the groomer is now on the move again.(see below) They have figured out the problem with the groomer, and the new heater part has been ordered. He will be running to Cat this afternoon and into the early evening if all goes well. He will stay at cat until the morning and start grooming again then. It’s just to cold with no sun during the evening. The new part should be in tomorrow afternoon and installed after that.
I got a couple of trail reports from sledders that left the Shell in the CaledoniaIndustrial park, and they report that it is pretty good going with the hard base underneath and the new snow. Please drive safe!
Saturday January 30th/2010 8:00AM
The groomer went out early this morning, but he had to turn around. There is a problem with the heater. They are working on it as we speak and will be out as soon as they get it fixed.
Some areas are reporting close to 10” of new snow, but it is hard to tell with all the wind we got. He will definitely having some problems with some snow drifting. There was some washouts and standing water reported in the trails yesterday, so be on the lookout for these. It definitely will not be the best conditions, but at least we have some new snow to work with.
If you want to head out on the trails, you should be good to go. Just be on the lookout for washouts and drifts.
The plan is to be out with the groomer all weekend as soon as they find the problem, so please always be on the lookout for it. I will post later on his progress.
Friday January 29th/2010 7:30AM
-1 and snowing here this morning. I spoke to a member that was out on the trails last night for a little run to see how they looked. He said in most areas the trail base remained however there is still standing water is some areas. The Lowry, Rd on trail 546/34 that was plowed for a logging operation is now down to dirt.
The snow this morning is a welcome sight. We will wait and see how much we get, and assess from there.
Tuesday January 26th/2010 10:00PM
After the rain and warm weather we had in the last 24hrs our trails have taken a huge beating. All of our trail system is considered closed until we receive some cold weather and more snow.
Also our Steak Diner scheduled for February 6th has been cancelled for the time being. It may be scheduled at later time if weather and time permits it.
Tuesday January 26th/2010 7:30AM
At post time it is +9 and raining in the Moncton area. This is not good at all for the little snow base we did have. The temperature is going to drop again tomorrow afternoon. We will assess what is left if anything after it freezes over again.
Sunday January 24th/2010 9:00AM
The trails saw a huge amount of traffic yesterday. The operator was on the trail at 8 last evening to try and avoid most of the traffic of the day. He told me that he appreciated it when the sleds pulled over and stopped when they saw him coming!
The operator said there were allot of moguls in the trails. He was cutting as hard as he could with the snow he has to work with. He said it was leaving the trail smooth for the most part. There are some washouts still on the trail, so please drive with extra care.
Trails that were done last evening are: trail 52 from St.Antoine up the 34/52 to the St.MarieRiveras well as into the Sugar Camp was done. Please use caution when crossing the river as the tidal water is playing havoc with the edge of the river. He then turned around and did the 34/646 up to the 653 and then onto the 642 into the Caledonia Shell. He fuelled up and the turned around and came back on his steps and into St.Antoine on 52 for some rest.
The long range forecast is not looking good at all. We cannot use any amount of rain or warm weather on our trails. Hopefully it changes.
Saturday January 23rd/2010 8:30AM
Should be a nice day on the trails with allot of traffic. The operator got the 52 to Cocagne done yesterday. We had a radiator problem with the groomer which was fixed yesterday evening.
I was out on our system yesterday and we do not have allot of snow for him to work with. The wood roads are no problem, but when he gets into the woods there is not enough snow to fill the highs and lows. We are doing the best we can with what we have to work with. The little snow we got this week was very light and does not groom up well. Now that some snowmobile traffic has been on, it should be more groom able. There are a few washouts that could be dangerous also, so please drive with care. We also need another good storm, which is not in the near forecast. Hopefully the warm weather early in the week will not be as bad as they are forecasting.
We are also having a problem with 4 wheel drive vehicles on our trail system. Yesterday there was one on the 34/646 near Irishtown. There were reports of one near the sugar camp as well as one in Lakeside Estates. They are rutting up the trail bad in some areas.
Groomer will be out this evening, so please be on the lookout!
Friday January 22nd/2010 8:00AM
Should be a nice weekend for snowmobiling. The operator had a good day yesterday. He made his way to the construction site on trail 653 on Highway 15. The 646 up to route 115 was done, then he made his way back down the 646 and 34 into St.Marie. He reported that the trails looked to be setting up nicely.
Today he will do the 52 from St.Antoine up to the Cocagne River. He should be done by noon. That will complete our main trails for the weekend.
We will assess the trails over the weekend to see how they are holding up. Last weekend they held up very well.
I hope the long range for Monday and Tuesday does not happen. Our trails cannot take any big amount of warm and rainy weather.
Thursday January 21rst/2010 9:00AM
We got about 10cm of new snow last evening. I just got off the phone with the operator. He tells me that this new snow is helping out a little bit. We will still need more, but it is better than nothing.
Trails that are done so far are #52 from St.Antoine to the 646/34 down to towards Moncton. He groomed up to the plowed section before the 126 on trail 34. He then turned around and came back to the 646/34 T and groomed the 646 into Moncton. He took the short trail 642 into the Caledonia Shell. This Morning he is going to groom the 653 down trough Lakeside up to the construction site on Highway 15. The 646 will also be done up to highway 115(Elmwood drive). We still need more snow to go any further in that trail with the drag. Then if all goes well he will head back towards St.Marie and finish up the 34 and 52.
There are still some water holes here and there, so please drive safe.
I will update once I hear more.
Wednesday January20th/2010 8:00AM
-4 at post time. We have 5 to 10 cm of snow on the way, which will definitely help out our trail base.
The groomer will be on the trail system today. The plan is to leave St.Antoine on trail 52 and head towards Moncton on trail 34 and 646. He will be working on the trails that we have enough groom able snow on to get them ready for the upcoming weekend. I will update on what was completed as soon as I hear.
Do not forget our Steak Diner coming up on February 6th at the Sugar Camp in St.Marie. We are looking for some volunteers for this event, so if you have a couple hours to spare please let us know. contactus@moncton-stantoinesnowmobileclub.com
Please keep in mind that all snowmobile clubs in New-Brunswick are volunteer based. We are all snowmobiler's giving our time off from work and away from our families to try and make the trail system the best it can be for everyone. If you have time to get involved, please do so we would gladly appreciate the help.
Monday January 18th/2010 7:30AM What a beautiful weekend we had to be out on a snowmobile. The trails saw a fair amount of traffic over the weekend. For the most part they held up good. I was able to make it out for a little bit yesterday. There are some areas that we will need some more snow to do anything with, because it is just frozen water. There are also a couple of washouts that we will need snow to fill the holes with. They are calling for a few centimeters of snow, so we will wait and see what comes out of that.
I will update a little bit later on what will be going on with the groomer over the next few days
Saturday January 16th/2010 8:30AM
The trails should be not too bad for the weekend considering the little snow we have. The Lowry, Rd on trail 646 and part of trail 34 has been plowed for a logging operation. There are some icy corners so take your time.
I got a trail report from one of our members Al last evening, and he said the trails were not to bad going considering the little snow we have to work with. He said it got better as you went towards St.Marie on the 34. He also said there were a couple of rough areas near the boiling hole warming shelter on 646 were the groomer brought some water up and it re-froze.
Please drive safe and have a good weekend!
Friday January 15th/2010 7:30AM
Yesterday the groomer left the Caledonia Shell and groomed into Cocagne. Trails that were done are 642,646,34 and 52 up to Cocagne. SNOWMOBILES ARE CROSSING THE ST MARIE RIVER , ON TRAIL 34/52. STILL WAITING ON WORD FOR THE COCAGNE RIVER ON TRAIL 52.
We are in big time need of snow. The minimal snow we have on the ground will not last long if we get any type of warm weather. There is no snow forecast in the long range, which is not a good thing.
If you head out, please drive safe.
I will update this weekend if anything changes. I am waiting for ice conditions also.
Thursday January 14th/2010 8:30PM I have added a new photo album titled Caledonia Mountain January 9th and 10th. Just click and pick the ablbum. They are a group of pictures this past weekend by the Tidd Family. They have allot of snow there. Check it out.
Thursday January 14th/2010 8:00AM
Another cold morning to freeze up that water in our system.
Yesterday we went out and tramped some trails with no drag. There are some areas that are known to have some water and we found it. Our goal was to do our first pass in some trails to see if there was some downed trees and water. With 2 guys on board they trimmed some trees and busted trough a few water holes. The operator used his front blade allot to try and fill some problem spots as well as try and make a flat base.
The trails that were tramped were the 653 up to highway 15 to were the new industrial park bypass is going to be. The groomer could not go any further and turned around. I am being told it is passable by snowmobile closer to the highway, but we will turn around there for the season. We will ask Shediac if they would be willing to come up to the other side for us for this season.
The 646 up to behind the golf course in Magnetic Hill has also been done. There were some water holes that were encountered in this section. Anyone familiar with this trail knows that it always needs more snow to properly groom than the rest of our system. We will need some more snow on this trail before we can bring the drag on it.
There are also some trees that need to be trimmed in these trails. If you are out and about, and have some free time please bring your axe.
Trail 52 in St.Antoine was all cleared yesterday.
Today the groomer will be leaving the Caledonia Industrial Park on 642 onto the 646 and then the 34 and 52 into St.Antoine. He is going to groom the 52 up to the Cocagne River if all goes well.
Comments that we are hearing is the more you head out of Moncton towards St.Antoine the snow cover gets better.
Please drive safe
Wednesday January 13th/2010 7:30AM
We had a decent day on the trails yesterday. The 34 almost to route126 was done. We need a bulldozer to knock down the bank on a plowed road close to the 126 so he can get on top of it. It was just to hard for him to push. The 646 , 653 and then onto the 642 into the Caledonia industrial park Shell. We need some more snow to work with, but we are working with what we got. Please take your time if you venture out.
The game plan for this today is to go down the 653 and groom up to highway 15 were Shediac meets up with us. Then we will turn around and come back down the 653 onto the 646 and make it to behind the golf course on Gorge, rd. We have found a temporary solution to get by the golf course closure in Magnetic Hill. We have a few club members that have some smaller groomers that are 5' wide that can be pulled behind a snowmobile. They have offered their help in grooming next to the guardrail. Its a little narrow in one spot, but at least it will get us to Magnetic Hill without having to cross highway 2.
The problem area on 52 was looked at yesterday. There will be a team of 5 guys heading out today to take care of the downed trees in the St.Antoine/Cocagne area. They say they should get it beat today.
A big Thank you to all of the volunteers that are pulling together to make our snowmobile season that much better.
Tuesday January 12th/2010 7:30AM
Another nice cold morning! The operator and his helper got to St.Marie on the 34/52 as well as into the Sugar Camp. They made there way back to St.Antoine for the night.
The groomer is heading out again this morning and he is going to come down the 34 and try to make it up to the 126 were our section ends. He will then turn around and head back down the 34 to the 646 into Irishtown and Moncton and then onto the 642 into cat for a bit of a rest. Hopefully all goes well.
Now we have a problem area on trail 52 which will check out in detail today. The area in question is on the other side of the 115 in St.Antoine heading towards the gun club and Cocagne. There is word that there are allot of trees down. We may get a work party together over the next couple of days to tackle this area. Some people can get out during the week, so there is Talk of maybe Wednesday or Thursday of this week, and if it were not all done we would finish it up on Saturday.
Anyone that is available to help during the week or Saturday, please give Charlie a call at 381-0751. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Monday January 11th/2010 3:00PM
I spoke to the operator around noon. He said it is slow going heading down the 34/52 into St-Marie. A 4-wheel drive truck made its way down the trail and made a huge mess of it. There are 2 guys on board, as there are allot of trees down in the trail. They need to stop and start allot.
We will need to get a work party together for this weekend to clear some of the downed areas. Word is that it is really bad in the cocagne area also.
Do not forget our meeting at the Tankville School tonight at 7:30. Hope to see you there.
Monday January 11th/2010 7:30AM
We got the cold weather we were hoping for with a -25 wind-chill at post time. From the few comments we got about the trails that were done over the weekend is that they were decent.
The groomer will be heading out again this morning. He will be leaving on the 34 in St-Antoine. I will let you know a little later as to what progress was made today.
We will need some new snow after this deep freeze. The problem I see is there is none forecast for the long range. Lets all do our snow dances.
Friday January 8th/2010 4:45PM I spoke to the groomer operator earlier today. He had made it to the Tim's/Shell in the Caledonia industrial park on trail 642. He said it was pretty good going, except for a few water holes and a beaver dam that was open on trail 646 near the Caledonia warming shelter. He was going to go down the 653 up to Lakeside Estates and turn around. He will be back in St-Antoine this evening for a little rest.
If you are heading out, please take your time.
Friday January 8th/2010 8:00AM The groomer is on the move. The operator is going to make the decision of how much of the trail system he is going to get done. He has enough experience to know if he is going to get in trouble or not.
Some people out there think we should have been out there before yesterday, but it was just to wet. Once you get the groomer stuck and start breaking stuff it is to late. As the executive of your club we need to make the decisions that we feel are right for the majority of our clubs members as well as the proper financial decisions.
See yesterday evenings post for details.
Thursday January 7th/2010 8:30PM
Well we attempted to go out today without the drag, but it was not doing much good at all. There are a few boys that went out with their snowmobiles and were tramping it down in tandem 2 wide and it seemed to work better. If there is anyone out there that would like to get out there and play this weekend I am being told that it would be of great help to get the trails tramped. For the most part you can get around most of the water. This will definitely help allot with the colder weather coming over the next week. Just take your time, this is early season running.
They did inform me that there are some areas with downed trees. So it would be nice if you are heading out to help clear some of these when you get to them.
The groomer will be attempting to go out again tomorrow morning with the drag this time to try and pan the trails. The operator thinks this may work better and make it more flat for it to freeze up nice and hard. The plan is to leave St-Marie on trail 52, 34 and 646 coming towards Moncton. He will see how far he can get. Hopefuly he will be able to do something with the little snow he has to work with.
This is the best we can do with what we have to work with for now. We need allot of cold and more snow. I will let you know how we make out as soon as I hear from the operator.
Thursday January 7th/2010 7:30AM
-2 at post time. Well some of the water in our trail system has had a chance to run off. We will be sending out the groomer with no drag out over the next few days. He should be able to punch trough some of the water holes, and bring some of the water up to the top. With the colder weather coming over the next few days this should give it a better chance of freezing up. Hopefully he does not get into any major trouble with water.
We will let it sit for a few days after that, and then see if we can do anything with our system after it freeze. The down side to all of this is there is no new snow in the immediate forecast.
Tuesday January 5th/2010 7:30AM +1 at post time. The weather is not being in our favor at all right now. We are in need of some cold weather to freeze up the standing water in our system. We probably have some trees down in some areas with the wind that we had, but we will need a few colder days to firm it up a bit so we can go and assess the trails. It looks like this may happen towards the end of the week.
If you happen to venture out and play, please take your time. We would love to hear from you if you see any areas with some downed trees that will require some attention.
Sunday January 3rd/2010 9:30AM
Well the snow we were getting yesterday is all but gone this morning. Last night the snow changed to rain and combined with the winds pretty much melted everything we got yesterday. It also introduced allot of water back onto the trail base which will need to drain off. We will need some cold weather in a big way to freeze things up which by the looks of it will not come till next weekend.
The rain has now changed back to snow and they are still calling for a heavy snowfall for the rest of the day.
Saturday January 2nd/2010 1:30PM
The snow has been falling now since 9:30AM. No great accumulation yet, but it is forecast to pick up later today and overnight. There is possibility of seeing 25cm to 40cm. This would be a great add on to our trail base. We will keep a close eye on accumulations.
We will make a grooming assessment after the storm has passed.
Friday January 1rst/2010 10:30AM
Happy New Year to all our members and supporters!
Depending on who you listen to, we may be in for a little bit more snow over the next couple days. We will need to wait and see.
There is still no grooming happening on our system. We will wait and see what we will get over the next few days. You can still go out and tramp the trails if you like. We need to try and drive some frost in.
There is limited grooming Happening on Caledonia Mountain in the higher elevations for those of you who want to put on a few miles. The best place to leave would be the S.E.N.B.S.A Club house.
Wednesday December 30th/2009 12:30PM -13 and very windy at post time. Allot of brush cutting has been done in the last week. Thanks to all of the volunteers that ventured out and helped.
With the cold weather setting in and the snow we got yesterday we are putting out the call to the die hard snowmobilers that want to put a few miles on. There is a fair amount of moisture trapped underneath the snow. We need to tramp it down and get that water up to the top so it will freeze and give us a good base. There is way too much water that is not frozen, and this needs to freeze up before we get some more snow on top. There is enough snow in the woods to play if you take your time. The groomer cannot venture out until it freezes and we get more snow.
The groomer was all ready to go for a while now, and then yesterday we noticed that one of the tires was bad. A new one was ordered and should be installed soon.
Tuesday December 29th/2009 11:30AM
Well we got some snow overnight. We were hoping for cold weather before the snow, but we will take what we get. It is still snowing a little bit a this time. The weather is also going to turn colder tomorrow which is definitely something we need to freeze up all that water in our trail system. There is also some more snow forecast for Sunday and Monday. We will need to keep our fingers crossed.
Our trail system is still considered closed until we get some cold and more snow.
Monday December 28th/2009 8:30 AM +3 here this morning and a few showers. The wind and rain pretty much melted all of our snow and turned it to ice. We will need some really cold weather to freeze things up a bit. There is a little bit of snow forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Wednesday and Thursday are going to cool off a bit which is what we need in a bad way. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
Saturday December 26th/2009 3:00PM
I hope everyone had a good Christmas! We will need allot of cold weather to get all of that water froze up. It looks like it may cool off around Tuesday with a bit of snow forecast. Hopefully the long range forecast will be better for us.
If any of you have some snowmobile pictures of our trail system you would like to share, please send them to me and I will post them in the photo albums. contactus@moncton-stantoinesnowmobileclub.com
Thursday December 24th/2009 8:00PM We would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas. If you are venturing out, please drive safe.
Tuesday December22nd/2009 7:30PM Well so much for the cold temps. This warm weather and rain is not helping out the trail base one bit. There is no real cold weather forecasted for the near future either. Oh well, we cannot change the weather. Hopefully it will cool off after Christmas. Stay tuned!
Saturday December 19th/2009 6:30PM
Well the cold has definitely frozen up some of this base. There is some snowmobiling happening in the Goshenand Caledoniamountain area. Gosheneven had their groomer out. They have more snow up in the higher elevations than we do. A storm is brewing possibly for tomorrow evening depending which way the system tracks. Let’s keep our fingers crossed! There is still some trail maintenance to be done, so if you have some time to help please give Alphe a call 384-3720
Wednesday December 16th/2009 8:30 PM There will be a signage and trail maintenance work party this Saturday. If you would like to donate a bit of your time, please give Alphe a call at 384-3720. thanks
Wednesday December 16th/2009 8:30AM It looks like the snow is going to stay with us. With the cold temps coming over the next couple days it will hopefully make a good base. We will need some more snow after that before we can send out the groomer.
The trail signage is coming together, but there are still some new signs to be put up. We have lost a section of trail 646 on the Magnetic Hill Golf course. We are working on a fix to try and get around this area.
We also need to reroute a section of 646 near the Irish town nature park area.
We will keep you informed on these new changes once they are finalized.
Thursday December 10th/2009 7:30AM
3 degrees at post time. We got about 15cm of wet snow last evening. It is going to warm up quite a bit today, hopefully we will not loose it all. The temperature is going to drop again and stay colder for a while, so this will help create our base. We will need lots of cold weather to freeze up all that water in our trails.
Do not forgot the to buy your trail pass before December 15th to save $50.00 on the regular season pass.
Tuesday December 8th/2009 9:00PM It looks like another storm is on the way. Maybe the snow will stick around after all. We will definitly need some colder weather if it does. Just got some new pictures of the shelter. Check them out here. Thanks to everyone involved.
Sunday December 6th/2009 11:00AM
Well now it is starting to look like December! We got about 10 to 15cm of snow overnight. The ground is not frozen at all, so if this snow stays we will need to get some cold weather to try and drive some frost down. Looking at the long range, the weather is supposed to stay below zero for most of the upcoming week.
Well allot of signage work has been happening. Our permanent sign structures at the major intersections have been installed. The idea behind these signs was to try and create something that would not be damaged in the off season and save the clubs some time every year. They are a teck post driven into the ground with brackets that can be adjusted facing the proper direction of the trail. We then install our signs to the brackets for the season. We can remove the whole top part in the off season if we like, or leave it there. This should be an awesome system.
The new signage is also being installed. The boys had a real good day yesterday and got most of trail 34 done. Thanks guys.
It is that time of year again. Yes it is trail maintenance time. We will post on here whenever there is a work party planned. We always love to see some new faces and the same old ones of course.
Also if you can make it out to our meeting Monday night Sept 14th at 7:30 at the TankvilleSchool, we would love to see you.
Tuesday April 28th/2009 6:00PM Another season has come to an end. We had our final meeting last evening for the 2008-2009 Season. The executive will remain unchanged for next season.
They are: Marc Bourque- President Jason Didychuk-1rst Vice Charlie Arsenault-2nd Vice Emery Gagnon-Treasurer Melody Didychuk-Secretary
Now the cleanup begins! The executive of the Moncton St-Antoine Snowmobile Club (#15) would like thank all of our members and volunteers for another great season. We will post here periodically when there is some work parties planned. Have a great summer!
